Pray the Name of God Daily
Power in the Name…
The names of God are POWERFUL! The power of His names reveals important attributes about His nature. Comfort, hope, and provision are all attributes of His names. They declare the magnificent glory of our God. The word “Name” alone is rich in meaning. One’s name reveals the reputation, fame, glory, honor, character, and authority of the one to whom it belongs. When referring to God by His names, we understand that He is THE Supreme Being; that He is THE Ultimate God, and Lord of all. He is ALL there is “PERIOD”, and there is none else and it is all rooted in His names! Supreme authority and impeccable character are imbedded in the use of His names. Although many names of God are mentioned in the Old and New Testament, rest assured that there is no one name that is at all adequate to describe the greatness of the Lord our God. If the heavens above cannot contain God’s majestic glory, how can one name alone describe His glorious character? The names of God are limitless, without boundary, unending, immeasurable, and everlasting; His powerful names, therefore, will be whatever you need Him to be in this life.
God’s man has a chief, principal, and primary end, and that is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. But man will experience God in such fashion as man will glorify Him; and enjoy Him only in proportion as we know Him.” Nathan J. Stone
Giving glory to God becomes natural when we have revelation of the nature of God. Knowing God, by experiencing Him, is essential for our Christian walk. The more He reveals Himself, the more He becomes real to us. It therefore becomes easier for us to give God Glory. Experiencing God transforms our worship; we graduate to worshiping Hm in the spirit and with truth.
Paul in Philippians 3:10 expresses the importance of knowing God by experiencing Him. The greatest goal of his life was to know and understand his Maker, Savior, and Lord. Paul knew that for him to finish the race that is set before him, it was important to obtain the complete knowledge of the One who had called him into service. …that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.
Elohim – Strength or Power, the God Who created all things! Elohim is descriptive of God’s supreme, sovereign, power on display through His creative acts. Simply put, Elohim is our Creator God upholding all things whether seen and unseen by Him mighty power and strength! Jesus hanging on the cross and separated from the Father cried out, “My God, my God why have You forsaken me”? He cried to the Only One Who could save Him. He cried to the Only One Who has strength, He cried to the all-powerful God! He Who rescues in time of need; He Who is the Only One that can do anything and Who can save anyone. Elohim saves, heals, delivers, and sets free. He is our all-powerful, strong, and only creator.
Adonai – Master, Possessor, Declaring Ownership (we are completely His own, purchased by His blood).
The word Adonai is the word for “Lord.” Lord is defined as “someone or something having power, authority, or influence. Lord denotes a master or ruler. When we say Adonai, we are saying “My Master, Owner, and Possessor.” God created us and redeemed us by His precious Blood; therefore, the name Adonai shows that God has right of ownership of us. To understand ownership, we understand that what we own, we protect and nurture. Because God owns us, He provides continuous protection, therefore, who will dare fight against us. He is the ultimate nurturer. The truth of God’s ownership of us should bring us to peace and completeness in Him. We can rest assured that our Master, Lord, Possessor and Owner is always caring for us.
Jehovah – Yahweh – The Lord God – ever present, ever living, the eternal one. Having no beginning, having no ending, the self-existing and ever present one. The God who reveals Himself unceasingly.
Jehovah – Yahweh the never changing, all-sufficient One, who possesses essential life. He is the One that we can count on at any time, day, or night regardless of the circumstances. He is there to save, protect, provide, nurture, and love. He is the keeper of covenants above His power. Whenever we call on the name Jehovah, we are calling out the covenants He made with man. He ordered Moses to go back to Egypt to free His people from the hands of Pharaoh because of the covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. God told Moses to tell His people, “I AM, That I AM” has sent you. He was announcing God’s unlimited ability, power, and love to His people. Our great God of covenant has the ability to be whatever we need Him to be in our life; he is the limitless God. Call His Name today over your circumstance and situation and see His mighty, delivering power. He will deliver speedily because of His covenant relationship with us.
El Shaddai – Almighty God who is above all things, ever existing and eternal, continually revealing Himself. The many breasted one, my source.
The understanding that the name El Shaddai gives us is that everything we need is in our source. When our source (the Almighty God) is identified and recognized, lack and limitation will flee out of our lives. He is the fountain of all things; love, joy, peace, health, wealth, and more flows out of our El Shaddai. It all started in Him; therefore, it all flows out of Him. He gives it all freely to those who are seeking him for it. Jesus is our source for all things. He told us in 1 Peter that He has already provided for us all things pertain to life and Godliness. We should lack nothing and all that we must do is trust that He is El Shaddai who is our source, and our nurturer for all things.
El Elyon– The Most High God – The High and Lofty God – awesome power, who is always in control of things in heaven, on earth and under the earth Gen 14:19.
El Elyon illustrates that in the New Testament Jesus Christ is the Most High God, Possessor of Heaven and earth, who sustains all things by the Word of His Power. All things in heaven and earth are held together by the powerful and living word, which is the Lord Jesus Christ. More than ever, we the born-again Christians can settle it in our hearts that the Most High God, who is the possessor of Heaven and Earth, is over all things and in everything. There is nothing that is higher, bigger, or deeper than our God who came down to earth and died for us because He loves us. Nothing has changed; He is still the same, yesterday, today, and forever more.
Jehovah T’sidkenu – The Lord our righteousness. We are the righteousness of God- in right standing, right relationship with God Jer. 23:6
Man was created in the nature and likeness of God. Before Adam sinned, he possessed a righteous nature. He was able to walk and talk with God. When he disobeyed, he was separated from His source of life; he lost his righteous nature. He was no longer innocent of transgression. Man didn’t keep the commandment of God and therefore was guilty of failure to obey God. Man committed sin by omitting God’s law; therefore, he traded his original character of righteousness for a sinful nature. Not only did he lose his God like nature, but he also lost his rightful position as a son of God. His relationship with his God and Father was completely cut off. Man needed a way to be reconciled to the Father. Our Lord Jesus Christ came to earth and died an excruciating death to undo the mistakes of man. In His agony, His Precious Blood that was shed on the cross of Calvary has redeemed man and repositioned him to have the nature of God as well as gain his rightful position as the righteousness of God. God in His power, might and grace has sent His only begotten Son to reconcile man to his rightful position therefore, becoming our Jehovah T’sidkenu – The Lord our righteousness.
“This is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness”—Jeremiah 23:6
Jehovah M’Kaddesh – The Lord who sanctifies, makes holy, purify, consecrate, separate, sets apart for His Glory Lev. 20:7
The Holiness of God is revealed in the name Jehovah M’Kaddesh – He who makes holy. The root meaning of Jehovah M’Kaddesh is to set apart, prepare, dedicate, be hallowed, be holy, be sanctified. Sanctification or Holiness means to set apart from sin and to set apart for God. God not only set us free from sin; He set us apart to be vessels that He will work through; and vessels that will walk in holiness. Holiness is a characteristic of all that God is and does. Only God has the ability to make man holy, therefore sanctification is a process whereby we spend time with God, through His word, establishing an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit, whereby we are continuously sanctified. God gets us to the place where we work out our salvation with fear and trembling. The name Jehovah M’Kaddesh grants access and directs us to the Holiness of God. Therefore, when we totally surrender ourselves to Him and allow His nature to flow in us, He becomes our sanctifier. God is absolute purity; He died to redeem us back to possessing our original nature of purity. Jesus prayed in John 17:17 asking God to sanctify us by His truth which is His word. By giving us a revelation of His words to change us from the inside, He sanctifies us so that we can possess His nature of holiness.
Jehovah Shalom – The Lord that gives peace – He is our peace, wholeness, perfected, nothing missing, nothing broken. The peace of God Judges 6:24
Jehovah Shalom,” a tribute and reminder of the Lord’s provision and promise of peace.
Our Lord and Savior is our peace. Knowing Him and abiding in Him gives us peace that surpasses all understanding. Regardless of what the storm is in our lives, holding on to Jesus and His promises will keep us in His perfect peace. The peace that Jesus gives starts with trusting and relying on Him. Jesus knew that there would be challenges and dangers in our lives. He does not want us to live a life full of fear and worry which is designed to separate us from Him. That is why He made His peace available for those who will abide in Him. In John 14:27, Jesus says, “peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful”. Jesus invites us to trust Him and not allow our hearts to be afraid. When we keep our eyes on the Lord, abide in Him, allow Him to lead and nurture our lives we will find His peace flowing in our lives regardless of what the circumstance is. He will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him, because he trusts Him Isaiah 26:3. God is our peace who gives us calmness, in the midst of storms, struggle, lack, limitations. He is a faithful God. Let go of worry, fear, doubt, guilt, insecurity and allow Jehovah Shalom to rule and reign in your life today.
Jehovah Shammah -The Lord our ever-present God Ezk. 48:30 Never leaves us nor forsakes us. Always with us Duet. 31:6
It takes a personal and intimate relationship with The Lord to truly understand the name Jehovah Shammah. Not only in Ezekiel 48:35 this name is revealed to Israel, it is also a promise that the Lord gave us throughout the Old Testaments. As New Testament believers who are called by the Name of Jesus Christ, His promises are solidified in Matthew 28:20 when he promised, “Lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world. We can rest assured that The Lord Jesus is with us everywhere we go; whatever we do. He is in our private lives, in our business, in our children’s lives, in our relationships to provide, nurture, protect and to give us peace that the world is not able to do so. All we have to do is call upon His name, open our hearts and continuously make Him be number one in our hearts and mind. He is faithful to be there even when we don’t pay attention to Him. He is there in good times and bad times. He is able to guide and guard us in times of trouble. God longs to be intimate with us and is there always waiting for us. Keep your hearts open and pure. Don’t allow fear, doubt, worry, guilt, insecurity, envy, etc. to cloud your heart where you will not be able to identify His presence and enjoy it. Allow Him to rule and reign in every aspect of your life.
Jehovah Raphe The Lord our healer, who is able to heal our wounds, bind up broken hearted, and changes bitter experiences to sweet. Isaiah 53:5
The manifestation of the healing power of our God is found in many places in the Old and New Testaments. The true and living God who made the bitter waters in the Desert of Shur to drinkable by asking Moses to throw a piece of wood is the same yesterday, today and forever more. God healed the water and made it drinkable supernaturally. He is still performing supernaturally in the lives of His people who are willing to lay down their lives and trust Him. Our awesome Father made a solid promise to His children the Israelites in Exodus 15:26, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.” We can call upon Jehovah-Rapha today to heal us of our physical and emotional ailments as well as provide redemption for our sins. The Great Physician – our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has taken the stripes for and cleansed us with His Blood. We can be confident that as covenant children of the Most High God who are bought by the Precious Blood of Jesus we are healed and made whole. He is hear to cleanse our bitter situations the same way He made the waters at Shur. He desires to see us be set free from all bondages. All He askes is for us to trust that He is a healer and is willing to heal, deliver and set us free from all sickness, disease, oppression, depression. This is the very reason He died on the Cross.
Jehovah Jireh – God sees-our provision and vision, Gen 22:14. He is the supplier of all our needs according to His Riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19.
Abraham believed God and climbed Mount Moriah with his son. He was ready to sacrifice his promised child ‘Isaac,’ because his relationship with God was more important to him. He knew and trusted God; and God showed up with a ram caught by its horns in the thicket. It is that intimate relationship, based on trust that moves God’s heart to provide for us. We have to trust that it is His nature to provide. He is a provider. He is willing and able to provide all our needs according to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus. If we have emotional, physical, spiritual, financial, relational needs God is willing and able to provide; and is able to give us exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us. We are covenant children of God purchased by the Precious Blood of Jesus. We qualify to receive all the good that God has to offer. It is not His desire that we lack any good thing. Jesus is His name. He has provided salvation to us by hanging on the cross. He has provided healing to us by His stripes. He took on our infirmities. He has provided holiness by becoming sin on our behalf. He has provided financially for us, by becoming poor so that we can become rich. If you trust Him, you will not suffer lack. He is our true provider. All you have to do is trust and believe in Him.
Jehovah Rohi – The Lord our Shepherd – the head of our lives who takes care of us moment by moment – He feeds, leads, pastures, and oversees. Ps 23:1
He is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls, who hung on the Cross of Calvary on our behalf. A true shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. That is what our Lord Jesus has done for us. He laid down His life and became sin for us paying the penalty on our behalf. All He asks is a personal relationship with us, based on love and trust. He loves us so much that He gave His life for us. He wants us to completely rely on Him as our shepherd. We need to trust Him and follow Him with a grateful heart. The Lord is my Shepherd; therefore, I shall not be in want. He provides for all my needs. He watches over me and protects me. He gives me joy. He sustains me. He is my peace and protection. He is my all in all.
Ps 23:2 Whatever, I have need of I can call on His Name by faith, and He provides. He lets me rest in green pasture – in a place where there is no lack and limitation. He lets me rest in comfort, abundance, and wholeness. He restores my soul. He takes care of it all and sees to it that I walk in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. His Name is on the line therefore, for His Name’s sake. He makes sure that I walk in the right direction without stumbling or falling; and if I stumble and fall, He picks me up and leads me in the right path. He is a faithful Shephard. I trust Him with all that is in me. I am comforted in Him. I love Him so very much.
Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our banner, our victory Ex 17:15. He gives us victory in every circumstance and situation 1 Corinthians 15:57
God is your victory. He is your strength to stand firm in hard times. He gives us the ability to resist the devil and overcome temptations. He performed a supernatural act on the mountain as Joshua held his hands, so that Joshua would win the battle(Joshua 8:18-19). He is with you doing things that no Eye has seen, no ear has heard or conceived in your mind. He does wonders every day, and at all times. That is why you should not be worried or afraid, for He is your banner and victory. God is always there to assist you. When you face challenges, God is there to protect and see you through. He promised that no weapon formed against you would prosper. No matter what it looks like, you are a winner because God has your back. He is on your side to protect and fight all your battles. You are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who makes you victorious. God will do it all on your behalf. Trust Him and walk by faith and not by sight. Cultivate an intimate relationship with Jesus. Worship and adore Him every time you get an opportunity. He is faithful to come through for you.
Jehovah T’sur – The Lord our rock, strength, boldness, confidence, courage, assurance. The Lord is my strength and my song; Ex 15:2.
Understanding the meaning of the Name Jehovah Tsur helps us know who God is to us. He is our defender, our strength, our hiding place, our boldness, our confidence, and courage when we are challenged with the issues of life. The Lord is our Rock, our strength; our fortress who gives us strength and trains us to stand firm regardless of the challenge(s). He is our place of safety and strength. David in Psalms 144:1-2 says, “Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.” This verse of scripture covers it all. There is nothing that David trusts and stands on except God Almighty. When we get the full meaning of who God is to us, we can put our trust in Him and walk with confidence. To put your trust in man can become hurtful and disappointing. However, to put your trust in God is a guarantee that He will always be there for you, to protect and strengthen you.
Jehovah T’sur is worthy of our trust, because 1) He is able to be the strength and firm foundation that we need to stand on at all times. There is nothing that is too hard for Him. He is never changing and there is no evil in Him. 2) He is faithful to keep His promises. His name is His character-Jehovah T’esur, is who He is, and He will not change. Therefore, it is very easy to trust Him once we understand His character and nature. 3) He loves and cares for us and wants us to depend on Him as our rock, our fortress, and our deliverer. He is faithful. He is worthy of our trust. All we have to do is call out His Name and trust Him to show up. Jesus our rock and firm foundation that we can stand on and never be ashamed or let down. The Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in Him. Psalms 92:15.
Immanuel – God with us. God came down to earth as a man and reconciled us to Himself. He came to earth for you and I. There is no one who knows how we feel, but God. Matt 1:23
Immanuel – the living expression of the incarnation. The Son of God became human, and made His home amongst us. Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy; He was literally “God with us.” Immanuel, the living expression of the Incarnation, fully human, yet still fully God. The miracle of the Son of God becomes human, and made His home among us, so that He could reveal God to us. Jesus was God with us, manifested in human flesh (1 Timothy 3:16).
The Gospel of John beautifully describes the Incarnation: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God, and is in closest relationship with the Father” (John 1:14–18). In Jesus, God walked with us, and talked with us as He did with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Christ arrival showed all humanity that God is faithful to fulfill His promises. Jesus was not just a sign of God with us; Jesus was God with us in the Person of His fulness. “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body” (Colossians 2:9). Jesus left the glories of heaven and took on the form of a servant. He was tested in every area of life’s issues so that He could identify with us in our day-to-day challenges and struggles.
Jehovah Sabaoth – The Commander of the Heavenly Hosts. Our strong tower in which we can run to. His power is available to us in times of trouble 1 Samuel 1:10-11.
This name denotes His universal sovereignty over every army, both spiritual and earthly. He rules and reigns over every power and authority. He has already defeated the enemy taking his power from him. God stripped the spiritual rulers and powers of their authority with the Cross; He won the victory and showed the world that they were powerless. Done! Finished! The battle has been won. The Lord of Hosts is the king of all heaven and earth. 1 Samuel 17:45 – Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” God is superior over all of His creation in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. He will deliver us from the traps of the fowler, and from deadly pestilence; under His wings we find refuge and protection.
El Olam – The Eternal God, everlasting God, who is from
Eternity-to-Eternity, forever; there is No ending, always present Gen 1:1. Genesis 21
And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God who never changes but remains the same. The everlasting God whom we can depend on no matter what the challenges are. We can rest assured and trust Him to be always present in our lives. He is from eternity to eternity. Nothing can change Him. He is the same yesterday, today and forever more. El Olam is His self-revelation; neither Abraham, nor we would not have come to know Him on our own. El Olam sums up this attribute of His being. God everlasting taught this truth in this great Name!
The Good Shephard – Our keeper, our Lord Jesus Christ who laid down His life for His sheep. My sheep hears my voice and follow me John 10:27.
Jesus is the fulfillment of Ezekiel 34:11-12,15 which reads, “For thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day.” “I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest,” declares the Lord GOD. “I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick…” Jesus in the Book of Luke told a parable about a shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine and goes to look for the one lost sheep (Luke 15:4-7). He came down to earth looking for the lost. He came to seek and to save what was lost (Luke 19:9-10). He is God incarnate who came to earth to seek and save His people. The good shepherd showed great concern for his sheep. He provided for them in terms of nourishment and rest. He guided them, leading the way. He was intimately involved with the flock and concerned for the safety of each individual.
Eternal God – The Eternal God is your refuge, and underneath His wings is His everlasting arm. Protector, strength, supporter we can draw strength, wisdom, power from Deut. 33:27. He is always and forever, from everlasting to everlasting. He was before the beginning and will be after the end. There is no end to Him. He exists forever and ever. Since He created us in His image, we (believers) get to exist with Him forever. The question is where will you exist forever? Is it heaven with Jesus or hell with Satan? The knowledge of the Eternal God will keep us out of Satan’s trap and show us the path to His eternal life.
